Doom, Gloom and the Black Room

Well...Katie is here and we've been shopping and such the past two days. We've gotten all of the curtains hanging up in the livingroom and I have to say, I'm really impressed with this new fangled technology. Bay window curtain rods completely change the look of the window. So much nicer than than the crappy 3 different rods.

We also picked up three gallons of black paint so we can get the walls painted and then she can paint stars all over it. We also found an awesome lightshade for the overhead light that is hand painted to resemble the lunar surface.

We also helped her get her garden on with tons of flowers and seeds. Last I talked to Mike, she's out playing happy gardener as we speak. Mike's mowing the lawn, I'm working. After Katie's done, they're going to go make themselves look like little ghosties and sand the walls more.

Fun!

Nothing like waiting until the last minute

Last week was a complete whirlwind and we wound up not getting anything done on the house, but that was for a very good reason. We bought ourselves a new car! First new car for either of us ever! It's a 2007 Honda Element SC and it's awesome for toting around dogs, kids & stuff all at the same time. It's a funky cool vehicle and I think it's just going to make life tons easier.

This weekend was another entertaining yet quite expensive one. We ordered the Bali blinds for the french doors so we'll finally get some privacy there. We also picked up curtains and a nice bay window rod (which I had no idea even existed) for the livingroom window so we'll finally have privacy there too. So, $400 later, we have privacy...ouch.

We had a bunch of other stuff to do including a last minute plane ticket purchase so grand painful total for the day was about $1100. *cry*

Sunday was all about a rush job trying to get Katie's room on the fast track because she's going to be here Wednesday night. Drywall patches are up, 1st layer of mud is up including making the weird angle wall joints into coves. I'm really proud of how that went. Tonight, I'll be cleaning the entire house and getting the drywall put up while Mike cleans up the floor and caulks it. Tomorrow we'll be sanding the walls and putting up the final coat of mud so this way on Thursday (we're taking the day off) we'll be able to sand, tack cloth and paint the walls and the floor. She's going to be sleeping on the futon in the livingroom for about a week because after the paint, we have to put in the carpet and molding then we can move the furniture in. I have no idea how to install carpet so we'll probably have to get someone to come in and do it.

Good times man. Not bad first whole room we are tackling and since we have no choice but to finish it quickly, it'll be nice to have one whole room done and we'll know just what we're in for with Ehren's room this summer because we'll be doing the same thing.

Yay!
